Area |
|
After
Lindbergh's famous flight across the Atlantic,
interest in model aviation skyrocketed
across the country including Winona, Minnesota.
Some of the early model contests would
attract hundreds of spectators. Indirectly,
Max Conrad had an interest in model aviation.
At one time he donated flying lessons
for model airplane contests.

| Aviation
Incentive Movement The following is an excerpt
from a document written by Max Conrad about
a national aviation program for schools. "The
movement is to be known as the "Aviation
Incentive Movement" and is primarily
aimed at capturing and holding the interest
of a sizeable percentage of the youngsters
in grade schools, junior high schools, and
high schools. |

|
The
plan includes but is not limited to the
establishment in such grade and high schools
of an aviation laboratory equipped with
interest-catching mechanical and electronic
devices, working models, cutouts and other
demonstration materials. Fieldwork will
include the construction of models and full-scale
gliders and airplanes from kits with arrangements
for flight experience and flight instruction
for those desiring it.
Age groupings are visualized as follows:
Group : #1 ages 7-15 ö non-flying
(solid) models
Group : #2 ages 10-18 ö flying
models" |
