Max Conrad was presented the Harmon Trophy by USA Vice President Hubert Humphrey in 1964.
The prestigious Harmon Trophy award was established in 1926 by Clifford B. Harmon, a wealthy balloonist and aviator to honor outstanding American aviators. The award is described as for "American awards for the most outstanding international achievements in the arts and/or science of aeronautics with the art of flying receiving first consideration."

Presented to Max at the dedication of Max Conrad Airfield in 1961 by Thunderbird aviators Major Hoot Gibson and Captains Bill Hosmer, Bob Cass, Bob Bell and Jerry Larson.

This collection of medals represents awards in high jump, javelin throwing, track and pole vaulting. Max Conrad held the National High Jumping record in l931 and was an Olympic contender in Boston that same year. At the University of Notre Dame in March, 1934, while conducting a flight school on campus, he made a name for himself as the “Notre Dame High Jumper”. He often worked to build up his upper body strength by walking up and down the stairs on his hands.
