June 21, 2005   Winona's Max Conrad Field was first stop on the 29th Annual Air Classic
 Air Race for women. Female aviators left  Lafayette, Indiana that morning and have four days to fly a circular course around the Midwest. One plane ran short of gas and had to make an
emergency landing on Highway 43 just outside of town.
